Based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), the fourth generation Prius is more efficient, better equipped and uglier than ever before.
Under the hood there’s a reworked 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine and electric motor setup. All Prius models now have a lithium ion battery, excluding the base Prius Two.
Fuel economy is provisionally rated at 54mpg (4.4L/100km) city, 50mpg (4.7L/100km) highway, and 52mpg (4.5L/100km) combined. For the Eco grade mileage is said to be 58mpg (4.1L/100km) city, 53mpg (4.4L/100km) highway, and 56mpg (4.2L/100km) combined.
The controversial new body may be pretty awful to look at, but it’s aerodynamic, with a coefficient of drag (Cd) of just 0.24
Standard features include bi-LED headlights, a new double wishbone rear suspension, instrument panel with twin 4.2-inch TFT displays, EnTune audio systems and wider 15-inch alloy wheels.
The Touring grades gain 17-inch alloys, while the Prius Three and above have satellite navigation standard.
