Although the new 2.0-liter turbo is a bid to match the Germans and their on-paper mileage, the new Lexus IS200t also recalls the original turbocharged 4-cylinder Toyota Altezza.
The new IS200t uses the same 2.0-liter turbocharged twin-scroll 4-cylinder engine as the RX200t and NX200t. In the IS it makes 180kW/241hp and 350Nm/258 lb-ft — about 5kW/7hp more than in the SUVs.
An 8-speed automatic is standard, and the IS200t can do 0 to 100km/h in 7 seconds and a top speed of 230km/h (143mph).
Fuel economy of 7L/100km (33.6mpg) is claimed. The IS200t goes on sale in Europe from September 2015.
