The Volkswagen ID R Pikes Peak not only set the fastest time for an electric car at the 2018 Pikes Peak hillclimb, but for all cars of all propulsion types.
Driven by Romain Dumas and racing in the Unlimited class, the Volkswagen ID R Pikes Peak completed the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in 7:57.148 minutes.
It smashed the electric car record, previously set at 8:57.118 minutes by Rhys Miller in 2016 in a Drive e0 PP110.
The Volkswagen ID R also broke the outright record set by Sebastien Loeb in 2013 in Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak of 8:13.878 minutes.
The Volkswagen ID R Pikes Peak has two electric motors (one for each axle), making a total of 510kW (680hp) and 649Nm (479 lb-ft). It weighs under 1,100kg (2,500 lb), and a has 0-60mph time of 2.25s.
