Toyota uBox concept: Space age minivan designed by students

The Toyota uBox concept was designed and made by graduate students at Clemson University’s International Center for Automotive Research.

The students at the South Carolina college envisioned a car designed for a “young entrepreneur who wants a vehicle that can provide utility and recreation on the weekend but that can also offer office space or other career-centric or lifestyle uses during the week”.

The distinctive monobox shape with plenty of glass and exposed A pillars is said to be both muscular and looking like it will “spring forward in motion, even when standing still.”

Inside, there’s a low floor with configurable and removeable seats on sliding tracks. The dashboard and many internal elements can be personalized via 3D priting.

The uBox’s electric drivetrain can power many computers, tablets, phones and power tools (!) via an array of 110V power outlets throughout the cabin.

The Toyota uBox makes its debut on April 12 at Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress and Exposition in the Cobo Center in Detroit.
