The Toyota Kijang is cheap, but rugged, body-on-frame minivan and one of Indonesia’s most popular cars, but what does its name mean?
The Toyota Kijang started life in 1977 and was for its first two generations actually a basic, boxy pickup, that was also available in people carrying versions. Later generations have been exclusively a body-on-frame MPV.
Kijang is Indonesian for deer. A deer emblem has also accompanied the Kijang badge on one or two generations of the vehicle.
Additionally, Kijang is an abbreviation for Kerjasama Indonesia Jepang or Indonesia Japan Co-operation.
