The Avensis is Toyota’s large D segment family sedan and wagon in Europe, but where does its name come from and what does it mean?
According to Toyota, Avensis is derived from “avancer”, the French word meaning “to advance”.
This writer remembers reading in a magazine, probably Car magazine, that it meant or was meant to evoke “Avenues of Sisterhood”. Autocade claims that it means “adventures and sisterhood”. Sisterhood, in this case, referring to the nations forming the European Union.
