Perhaps to show off its design expertise before local manufacturing ceases in 2017, Toyota Australia has come up with the striking 86 Shooting Brake concept.
Designed in Australia, the Toyota 86 Shooting Brake concept was hand made in Japan by the company’s sports car division. Unlike Holden, Toyota has the capability to design concept cars but not fabricate them.
The Toyota 86 Shooting Brake concept was unveiled in Sydney, by the famous Harbour Bridge, under the watchful eye of the 86/GT86’s chief engineer Tetsuya Tada.
Toyota’s Australian design team began working on the 86 Shooting Brake as a passion project, with initial designs photochopped. The team presented Tada-san with a one-quarter clay scale model in Novemeber 2014.
A refined model was later sent off to Japan, with the sports car division pulling an 86 off the production line to convert into the 86 Shooting Brake.
With the 86 convertible off the table, it’s unlikely that the 86 Shooting Brake will make it into production.
