Tesla Motors Inc. has become just Tesla Inc. reflecting it purchased in November 2016 of SolarCity, a solar panel maker also run by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Tesla also makes battery packs for home and electricity utilities, and has just starting making batteries at its GigaFactory in conjunction with Panasonic.
The name change reflects that company’s broadening focus from just making electric vehicles, although this activity will likely remain the company’s most headline grabbing activity.
The name change takes effect from today, Wednesday, February 1, 2017.
