Tesla boss Elon Musk has confirmed the company has made its millionth car, a red Model Y crossover, which was produced in Fremont, California.
Based on the popular Model 3 sedan, the Model Y is available with up to seven seats, but misses out on the unique (and hugely expensive) gullwing doors of the larger Model X SUV.

Tesla is also the first company to build one million electric cars.
Excellent work for a company that began making its first car (the Roadster, which was based on the Lotus Elise) in 2008. Its first fully in house model, the Model S, began production in 2012.
