Select diesel models from Porsche and Mercedes-Benz cannot be registered in Switzerland as these cars disguise the true extent of their emissions.
The models banned by Swiss road agency are the Mercedes-Benz Vito van with a 1.6L turbo-diesel I4, Porsche Macan 3L V6 turbo-diesel, and Porsche Cayenne 4.2L V8 turbo-diesel.
These cars can’t be registered after August 17, 2018. If these cars are already in the country and registered, they can continue being used but need to be retrofitted to be compliant.
Mercedes-Benz says it has stopped importing the Vito model, and only 24 vans have been affected by the ban.
