Despite having a limited range of cars, Subaru has managed to crack the half million annual sales mark for the first time ever in the USA.
According to the company, Subaru sold its 500,000th car of 2014 on December 29.
Subaru USA has grown is sales rapidly; in 2008, the Japanese company sold just 187,699 in the US. Even discounting the cars sold before the end of 2014, that equates to an increase of 266 percent.
Much of this has to do with the company’s comfortable off-road pedigree, with the Outback and Forester accounting for around 300,000 sales this year alone. The relatively new high-riding XV Crosstrek, which is based on the Impreza, has chipped in with 60,000 units.
Subaru says that the new generation Legacy has doubled it sales rate since hitting the market.
