On Skoda cars the RS or vRS badge denotes high performance, but what do the letters mean? And why is it vRS in the UK and RS elsewhere?
According to Skoda UK, the v in vRS is actually “the diacritical mark you see above the S in Škoda“. It’s commonly believed that Skoda UK uses the name vRS instead of RS because Ford, which has historical links to the RS badge there, filed a complaint.
In the same letter, Skoda confirms that RS stands for Rally Sport.
Personally, we’d like to see Skoda standardise it as vRS across the world. It is a little more distinctive than just RS. I mean, how many other car sub-brands are named after diacritical elements?
