Ram is now open to the idea of adding a second, smaller pickup truck to its lineup to take on the Chevrolet Colorado, Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier.
Mike Manley, head of both the Jeep and Ram brands, told The Detroit News, “I think there’s opportunity there in the U.S. if you look at what’s happened in the mid-size segment here – significant growth last year. I think that space is big enough, certainly, to have two offerings there.”
By two offerings, Manley is referring to the Jeep pickup that will be based on the next generation Wrangler off-roader.
Whether the mid-size Ram pickup will use Wrangler underpinnings or be based off a different platform isn’t known. Other possibilities include the Jeep Renegade-based Fiat Toro pickup that’s on sale in Brazil, and Fiat Fullback, a rebadged Mitsubishi L200/Triton pickup.
