An online poll, drawn from a shortlist selected by a panel of esteemed journalists, has declared the Peugeot 205 GTi to be the greatest hot hatch ever.
The announcement was made recently at the Performance Car Show in Birmingham, UK.
The shortlist of 50 cars was drawn up by Steve Cropley and Matt Prior from Autocar, and Dan Trent and Richard Bremner from PistonHeads.com.
The top ten hot hatches, as voted by the public, are as follows:
- Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6 (above)
- Lancia Delta HF Integrale (below)
- Ford Escort RS Cosworth
- VW Golf GTI (Mark I)
- Renault Clio Williams
- Renault Clio 182 Trophy
- VW Golf GTI (Mark II)
- Renault 5 GT Turbo
- Ford Focus RS (Mark I)
- Talbot Lotus Sunbeam
