Opel/Buick/Holden Cascada etymology: What does its name mean?

The Opel Cascada (also sold as a Buick, Vauxhall and Holden) is a pretty little four-seat soft-top convertible, but what does its name mean?

Cascada is the Spanish word for waterfall. Whilst the sound of the name is beautiful (to our ears, at least), given the fact the Opel/Vauxhall/Holden/Buick Cascada is a convertible, it might evoke conjure the thought of leaking roofs in potential customers who speak Spanish.

That’s probably why the car is marketed in Spain as the Opel Cabrio, although it’s still sold as the Opel Cascada in Chile. The vehicle isn’t sold by Buick in Mexico.
