The Nissan Xterra SUV could make a return in North America, as the segment heats up with the new Jeep Wrangler and the reintroduction of the Ford Bronco.
Michael Bunce, Nissan North America’s product planning chief Bunce has told WardsAuto, Nissan is “very, very closely” seeing whether it should return the offroad utility segment.
The new Jeep Wrangler will go on sale in 2018, and the revived Ford Bronco (based on the new to America Ranger midsize pickup) is due by 2020.
Nissan is planning to launch the Terra SUV in China in 2018. The Terra is based on the D23 Nissan Navara NP300 pickup truck.
The Xterra was last sold in the USA in the 2015 model year, and was based on the Frontier – the American version of the Navara. The first generation Xterra is still in China as the Palladin.
