Mazda North America’s allocation of 100 MX-5 25th Anniversary Edition models has sold out in under 10 minutes.
The company made its limited edition MX-5 available for pre-order on its website from 20 May on a first come, first served basis. Within 10 minutes of the 10.25 (PDT) opening time all 100 had been reserved. The site kept taking registrations until 250 people had down orders — done just in case any of the 100 decides to pull out.
Worldwide there will just 1,000 25th Anniversary Edition NC Mazda MX-5s built. In the US, the 25th Anniversary Edition MX-5 is priced at US$32,205 for the 6-speed manual and US$32,655 for the 6-speed auto.
All models feature a power folding hardtop, 17-inch gunmetal grey alloy wheels, white leather seats, leather clad everything, drilled aluminium pedals, and metal scuff plates. Manual versions also come Bilstein shocks.
Under the hood there’s no extra power from 2-litre petrol motor. Although it still churns out 125kW (167hp) of power and 190Nm (140lb-ft) of torque in the manual, Mazda says that it’s revised the components so it spins more freely.
In addition buyers will receive a Tourneau watch with a 42mm sapphire crystal anti-glare face, leather wrist band, red stitching and MX-5 25th Anniversary logos.
