The Mazda CX-3 SUV has gone on sale in Japan and will only be available with the company’s 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine.
While other markets will have the option of a 2-litre engine, the CX-3 in Japan will be offered exclusively with the company’s 1.5-litre turbo-diesel. Turning out 77kW (103hp) and 270Nm (199 lb-ft), the engine is paired with a “Natural Sound Smoother” that reduces the “diesel knock sound”.
The company doesn’t go into any detail about how the sound smoother works. It could be a noise cancellation device or something else entirely. The company does note it is “available as a factory-installed option in Japan only”.
The CX-3 will be available both front- and all-wheel drive versions. All variants are offered with either a 6-speed auto or 6-speed manual for the same price.
There are trim levels to choose from: XD, XD Touring and XD Touring L Package. Prices begin at ¥2.376 million (US$19,900) for the XD FWD manual or auto, and top out at ¥3.024 million (US$25,300) for the XD Touring L Package with AWD in either auto or manual.
