Maserati was created in 1914 in Bologna by the Maserati brothers. Known for their racing exploits, the brothers crafted cars that reflected the sporting heritage.
The company has passed through several hands over the year, including Citroen, De Tomaso and most recently Fiat.
In Fiat’s brand hierarchy, Maserati now shares a lot in common with Ferrari, but is positioned as considerably less sporting. Maserati is placed higher, though, than Alfa Romeo.
