James May picks his 13 most significant cars ever

Top Gear presenter and auto writer James May has picked his 13 most influential cars ever for the London Classic Car Show.


May has curated the list into a exhibit “The Cars That Changed The World”, and which will be on display at London Classic Car Show at ExCeL, Docklands, from the 8th to the 11th January 2015.

The hirsute auto journalist has split his list into two halves, dubbed “The Halls of Obviousness” and “The Chambers of Bloody-Mindedness”.

In the Halls of Obviousness are the:

  • 1886 Mercedes-Benz Motorwagen
  • 1908 Ford Model T
  • 1938 Volkswagen Beetle
  • 1959 Austin Mini
  • 1964 Ford Mustang
  • 1997 Toyota Prius

Occupying the Chambers of Bloody-Mindedness are the:

  • 1901 Waverley Electric
  • 1906 Cadillac Model K
  • 1933 Standard Superior
  • 1972 Honda Civic
  • 1980 Lada Riva
  • 2009 Bruno ExoMars Rover

May will reveal the 13th car on the list at the show and members of the public are encouraged to debate him about his choices at the show.
