Based on the i20 hatch, the Hyundai Bayon is a small SUV designed and sold exclusively in Europe, but what does its name mean?
The new Bayon is named after the city Bayonne, the capital of French Basque region. In the local Basque language, the city is known as Baiona.
According to Hyundai, Bayonne is “one of the most beautiful destinations in the south-west of France” and the city’s name was chosen for the car because the car “is designed to meet the demands of the European market, the company decided to give it a European name”.
