Hyundai has christened its large front-wheel drive luxury sedan, codenamed AG, Aslan.
The new Aslan will be a large luxury front-wheel drive that slots in between the FWD Grandeur (Azera in North America) and rear-wheel drive Genesis. For now, the Aslan will be a Korea-only affair.
Codenamed AG, the large sedan had its world debut earlier this year at the Busan Motor Show.
Not only is Aslan one of the main characters in the C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia series, which includes The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but it’s also Turkish for lion. What with lions being the kings of the jungle and all, Hyundai thought it an appropriate name for its large sedan.
This does, however, neatly ignore the fact that the Genesis and Equus (Latin for horse, incidentally) are larger, more luxurious, have rear-wheel drive and are available with V8 engines. So, in Hyundai’s view the world horses trump lions.
The Aslan will go on sale later this year and will priced around 40 million won (US$39,000).
