Holden Cruze will end Australian production in October 2016

The J300 Holden Cruze will cease Australian production in October 2016 as Holden slowly winds down from being a manufacturer to an importer.

Mark Bernhand, chairman of Holden, told the Australian ABC that ceasing Australian production of the Cruze “was always part of Holden’s gradual scaling down”.

As the Cruze has aged, sales have slipped from around 33,000 per year to roughly 15,000 in 2015. The Cruze will be replaced by the latest generation sedan in 2017, and the Opel Astra hatch in 2016.

Holden’s factory is set to close in late 2017 when production of the Commodore sedan and wagon, Caprice sedan, and Ute ceases. These models will remain in production despite this week’s announcement.
