The first ever turbocharged Type R model, the FB Honda Civic Type R hatch, will feature a 228kW/400Nm 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo.
Redlined at 7,000rpm, the new engine generates maximum power output at 6,500rpm and peak torque at 2,500rpm. The VTEC turbo engine drives the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission.
Flat out, the Civic Type R can complete the 0 to 100km/h dash in 5.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 270km/h. Both of these figures are claimed to class leading numbers.
Beneath the Type R’s fattened wheel arches are 19-inch alloy wheels shod with 234/35 tyres. Brining the whole shebang to a stop is Brembo brake package with 350mm drilled discs and 4-pot calipers at the front.
An optional GT pack adds red highlights to the front and rear splitters, front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, automatic high beams, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, automatic wipers, electric folding wing mirrors, sat nav, the Honda Connect entertainment system, and an 8-speaker 320W sound system.
