The product may be a bit thin at Chez Chrysler, but they do know how to impress journalists and enthusiasts alike.
When the company first teased the world with details about the hi-po Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, they said it would have over 600hp (447kW). They certainly weren’t lying about that.
The supercharged 6.2-litre Hemi Hellcat V8 engine churns out 707hp (527kW) and 650 lb-ft (881Nm) of torque. Power goes to the ground (just) via a new 8-speed automatic transmission, which is branded Torqueflite to stoke the flames of nostalgia.
Two key fobs are provided with the Challenger SRT Hellcat: a red one, which allows the driver enjoy all the engine’s glorious bounty, and a black one, which limits output to a mere 500hp (373kW).
No word yet on how much the Hellcat will cost, but needless to say it’s Dodge’s faster and most powerful V8 yet.
