Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra gain box delete option

GM has added an option to delete the standard cargo tray box from full size Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks.

The new delete option is available on the 1500 rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions of regular cab Chevrolet Silverado, and its GMC twin, the Sierra.

Selecting the option removes the rear box, bumper and spare tire assembly. You do get new high-rate rear springs, a new front stabilizer bar for improved high load carrying performance.

The box delete gives buyers a US$575 credit. Retaining the spare tire assembly removes US$335 from that discount.

The new box delete option for the Silverado/Sierra follows on from a similar option in the smaller Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon, and the cab chassis versions of the Silverado HD and Sierra HD.
