The new Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe marks a number of firsts for the brand: its first SUV “coupe”, its first AMG Sports variant and the debut of the Dynamic Select control system.
It’s also the first car branded according to Mercedes-Benz’ new simplified naming structure: GL denoting its SUV-style body and E marking it out as an E-Class derivative.
The GLE Coupe will initially be offered with three drivetrain options (GLE350d, GLE400 and GLE450 — detailed in full below), all featuring a turbocharged V6, 4Matic all-wheel drive and a 9-speed automatic transmission.
20-inch alloy wheels are standard on the GLE350d and GLE400, while the GLE450 AMG wears 21-inch rims as standard. 22-inch alloys are optional in conjunction with air suspension.
Available kit extends to electric tailgate operation, reversing camera, crosswind assistance, automated emergency braking, LED headlights, automated parking, heated windscreen wipers, 8-inch Comand screen, 6-disc DVD changer, Bang & Olufsen sound system and TV antenna.
The GLE Coupe is the first Merc available with a less explosive AMG Sports model, the GLE450 AMG. In addition to a few extra kilowatts, sports body kit and styling enhancements, the GLE450 AMG comes with a Dynamic Select control system that includes five different drive modes: Individual, Comfort, Slippery, Sport and Sport+.
