The last non-SUV in Buick’s US range will be axed after the 2020 model year because, well, everyone’s buying crossovers not sedans or wagons.
Stuart Fowle confirmed to Motor Authority “the Regal will no longer be offered in the U.S. and Canada” once the 2020 model year is over.
Fowle says Buick is ahead of curve for the adoption of SUVs as “nearly 90 percent of Buick sales to date this year have been crossovers”.
The Regal will continue to be sold in China as sedan where it is built by GM-SAIC. The current Regal was sold in North America as a liftback and wagon, and was built by Opel, which is now owned by Groupe PSA (the owners of Peugeot and Citroen).
Opel and Vauxhall have just unveiled a subtle facelift for their range topping Insignia range.
