Alfa Romeo Giulietta axed, will be replaced by Tonale SUV

Alfa Romeo is down to just two models, with the compact Giulietta hatchback axed across Europe in preparation for a new SUV.

Alfa has confirmed the Giulietta’s demise to Autocar. While sad, the FWD hatch was 11 years old and really showing its age.

It will be replaced by the Tonale SUV, which will go on sale in 2022, and will be available with plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The Giulietta was due to go out of production in 2020, but it got a stay of execution thanks to the pandemic. Last year just 10,817 Giuliettas were sold in Europe, down from 26,632 in 2018.
