Ever wondered what those three little letters attached to the Acura NSX stand for? Well, wonder no more.
The letters NSX stand for New Sports-car eXperimental. When Honda/Acura revealed the first prototypes of its first ever supercar back in 1989, the name was actually spelled NS-X.
Some time between those press conferences and the car’s production launch in 1991, the company decided to drop the hyphen.
The X suffix can now be found on all of Acura’s current model line (ILX, MDX, TSX, RLX, RDX), but we’re not sure just how experimental those cars really are.
With the first of the second generation NSXes now out the door at Honda’s Ohio factory, the company has revealed that for the new car, NSX now stands for New Sports eXperience.
The experiment is now over people. It’s probably safe to assume that the X in other Acura models also stands for experience too. Although, does that mean we’ll get a feel for what it’s like to be a medical doctor by driving the MDX.
