The Volkswagen Budd-e concept will be transformed into a production car that will pick up where the Microbus/Bulli/Combi left all those years ago.
Dr Volkmar Tanneberger, head of electric car development at Volkswagen, told Car, “You will see a car that looks a lot like this, on the MEB platform, reach production. I can’t say exactly when, but 2020 or thereabouts.”
In the wake of the dieselgate emissions cheating scandal, the company is looking accelerate its EV efforts. It is developing a platform kit, called MEB, just for electric cars.
MEB could also spawn a successor to critically acclaimed Audi A2.
