The plug-in hybrid Volkswagen Tiguan GTE Active was the main attraction at VW’s stand at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show.
Based on the second generation Tiguan soft roader, the GTE Active concept has a direct injection turbocharged gas engine with 150PS (110kW).
There’s also a 54PS (40kW) electric motor for the front axle and a 115PS (85kW) motor for the rear axle.
With the batteries charged, the car runs as a pure EV with the electric motor at the rear doing all the work. When traction is compromised, the front electric motor kicks in. AWD mode can be engaged by the driver manually.
EV range is rated at 20mi (32km), while overall range is 580mi (933km). There’s a 64L (16.9 gallon) gas tank and a 12.4kWh battery.
