The second generation GMC Acadia has shifted to GM’s Chi architecture, shared with the Cadillac XT5, and is 700lb lighter, smaller, and features one less seat.
The new Acadia is significantly smaller than the original model, which debuted 10 years ago, and was based on the GM’s Theta platform, shared with the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Envision and the Saturn Outlook.
For the first time the Acadia is available with a 4-cylinder engine, a 2.5-liter aluminum gas motor with 194hp *(145kW) and 190 lb-ft (258Nm) and a standard 6-speed auto.
There’s also a 3.6-liter V6 with 310hp (231kW) and 271Nm (367Nm). Front-wheel drive is standard, and AWD is optional. The AWD All Terrain model has an active twin clutch system, but loses the rear row of seats.
High strength steel, and a much reduced dimensions contribute a drop in weight by 700 lb (318kg). It also makes the new Acadia easier to park and manoeuvre.
