Among automotive enthusiasts Lancia is one of those fading, but still fondly remember brands, but who or what is named after?
Lancia was founded in 1906 by racing car drivers Vincenzo Lancia and Claudio Fogolin, and the company bears the name of the former.
The company is very much Italian in spirit and ownership. It was purchased by Fiat in 1969, with Lancia suffering huge losses at the time.
Despite its all-Italian heritage, the company is well known for a variety of models named after letters from the Greek alphabet, including the Beta, Gamma, Theta, Delta and Ypsilon.
This might stem from the fact that Vincenzo Lancia’s dad was keen student of the Greek language.
