Nissan had decided to pull the plug on the uniquely laid out GT-R LM Nismo race car after competing in must one race, the 2015 Le Mans 24 Hour.
The company had planned on entering it in other LMP1 class races, including the 2016 season, which again includes the Le Mans race.
Nissan says now that it will “withdraw its LMP1 entry from the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship.”
The GT-R LM Nismo differed from its Audi, Toyota and Porsche competitors by having its twin turbo V6 up front and powering the front wheels. A electric hybrid system sent some power to the rear in certain circumstances.
The odd layout was said to help airflow and down force, but not enough, it seems, to overcome the orthodox mid-engine layout common in the class.
