Subaru has done plenty of fun cars, but the BRZ is the first to boast true purity in its driving experience. What does its name stand for, though?
According to Subaru, the letters stand for Boxer Rear-wheel drive Zenith.
Given the BRZ’s place as, possibly, the first rear-wheel Subaru since the Sumo van that finished production in 1986, the name stands to reason.
As most of us know, the BRZ was co-developed with Toyota, which markets its version as the 86, GT86 and Scion FR-S depending on the market. Both car feature a direct injection boxer 4-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive.
