The new Mark VII Volkswagen Golf SportWagen has just gone on sale in the US and replaces the Mark VI Jetta SportWagen.
The new Golf SportWagen is available with one diesel and petrol engine. The 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol motor develops 170hp (127kW) and 199 lb-ft (270Nm), while the 2-litre turbo-diesel generates 150hp (112kW) and 236 lb-ft (320Nm).
Both engines are front-wheel drive only propositions in the US. The 1.8-litre petrol engine can be specified with either 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic, while the diesel can be had with either 6-speed manual or 6-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Pricing for the petrol car begins at US$21,395 for the S, which features 15-inch alloys, fake leather seats, cruise control, electric windows, air conditioning, Sirius XM satellite radio, and a 5.8-inch touchscreen sound system. The auto model costs US$1,100 more.
The auto-only US$26,995 SE gains 17-inch alloys, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlights, heated front seats, Fender audio system, reversing camera, push button start and keyless access.
The top-spec US$29,345 SEL adds 18-inch alloys, silver roof rails, sat nav, climate control, and sports seats with 12-way power adjustment on the driver’s side.
For diesel buyers there’s the US$24,595 S model with 16-inch alloys, keyless entry and push button start, and a reversing camera.
Next up there’s the US$27,995 SE that adds 17-inch alloys, panoramic sunroof, auto wipers and headlights, and a Fender audio system.
At the top of the pile there’s the US$30,345 SEL that has 18-inch alloys, sat nav, silver roof rails, climate control and sports seats with 12-way power adjustment on the driver’s side.
All diesel models feature a 6-speed manual as standard, while the 6-speed dual-clutch transmission is an extra US$1,100.
