The third generation Ford Everest has made its public debut at an event in China.
As with previous generations of the Ford Everest, the latest model is based on the same frame as the Ford Ranger pickup, although the Everest’s body panels are largely unique.
The body-on-frame Everest has a ground clearance of 225mm and can wade in water up to 800mm high. Four-wheel drive versions will be available with the company’s terrain management system, which is equipped with four modes: Normal, Snow/Gravel/Grass, Sand and Rock.
Top-spec models will be available with the following tech: curve control, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and automated emergency braking, automated parking, active noise cancellation, LED driving lights, electric tailgate, and roll stability control.
An 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 2 entertainment system, Bluetooth, USB, SD card reader and steering wheel audio controls is also available.
The Everest is able with seating for up to seven people, and both the second and third row of seats fold completely flat.
Three engines will initially be offered in the Everest: a 2-litre turbocharged (EcoBoost) petrol engine, and a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel and 3.2-litre 5-cylinder turbo-diesel.
The Everest will go on sale across Asia, including China, ASEAN, Australia, New Zealand and India from 2015. The Ranger-based SUV will also be available in sub-Saharan Africa and South Africa in 2015.
