When is a concept car, not really a concept car? When is it just a production vehicle with a bit of body wrap and a new set of alloy wheels? The Chevrolet Silverado Toughnology concept is certainly more of the latter than the former.
Unveiled at the Texas State Fair and bound for the SEMA show in November, the Toughnology concept is meant to highlight the high-strength steel used throughout the latest Chevrolet Silverado range.
It does this by wearing a body clad in “simulated raw steel”, which has been “accented with steel molecule graphics”. The hood, which is actually made from aluminium, is painted black.
There’s extra black and chrome bits, side steps, a soft foldable tonneau cover, washable carpet bedliner, fender flares, tinted headlights, an upgraded braking package, performance exhaust system, and a revised grille, as well as 22-inch wheels pilfered from Chevy’s accessories list.
Based on the LTZ trim, the “concept” features Chevy’s 5.3-litre V8, which churns out 355hp (265kW) and 383 lb-ft (519Nm).
