Cadillac has confirmed that it will move its headquarters to New York City and that it will become its own business unit under the GM corporate umbrella.
It’s been rumoured for a few weeks now — certainly since Johan de Nysschen jumped from Infiniti to Cadillac — but Cadillac will become more independent.
To this end, it will become a separate business unit with more freedom, but also more responsibility for its own destiny. The new entity will setup its world headquarters in the trendy Soho district of New York City in 2015.
It’s not entirely clear who, and departments, will move from Detroit and which will stay.
The company announced last week that it will build its new top-of-the-line sedan, possibly dubbed LTS, at GM’s facility in Hamtramck, Detroit, from the end of 2015.
