Mini has finally taken the wraps off its first 5-door hatch, which will likely set purists’ tongues tut-tutting.
Despite that, the car should be a hit and it sticks closer to the original car’s ethos than the Countryman and Paceman SUVs. At launch in Europe, the new F55 Mini 5-door will be available with four motor choices.
The petrol range kicks off with the Mini Cooper, which packs a 100kW (136hp) turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. Next up is the Mini Cooper S with a 141kW (192hp) turbocharged 4-cylinder motor.
On the diesel side there’s the Mini Cooper D with a 85kW (116hp) turbocharged 3-pot and the Mini Cooper SD with a 125kW (170hp) 4-cylinder turbo mill.
A 6-speed manual transmission is standard on all models. Other standard kit includes a 4-line stereo display and automatic engine stop/start.
Optional kit stretch from a 6-speed auto and 8.8-inch audio system display through to LED headlights, LED tail-lights, roof rails, parking sensors, reversing camera, sunroof, dual-zone climate control, digital radio, Harmon/Kardon audio system, heated seats and mirrors, sat nav, and smartphone app connectivity.
