President Biden says he will tackle climate change by rejoining the Paris climate accord, and converting the US government fleet to EVs.
Biden in a press conference said, “The federal government also owns an enormous fleet of vehicles, which we’re going to replace with clean electric vehicles made right here in America, by American workers.”
The US government fleet is about 650,000 vehicles, although many are active military vehicles, which will likely get an exception.
US manufacturers are starting to ramp up their production of EVs. GM has a range of Cadillac vehicles based on a dedicated EV platform, as well as the GMC Hummer EV pickup and SUV. Ford has introduced the Mustang Mach-E, e-Transit and is working on other EVs. And there’s Tesla and Rivian too.
