To meet strict EU emissions rules, plug-in hybrids are being added to all model ranges, including the high volume Audi A3.
And now the new A3 45 TFSI-e (awful name) joins the range, above the less powerful 40 TFSI-e.
The 45 TFSI-e plug-in hybrid has a 1.4L turbo I4, an electric motor and a 6-speed DCT. The FWD PHEV has a total of 185kW (248hp) and 400Nm (295 lb-ft).
The 1.4L motor makes 110kW (148hp) and 250Nm (184 lb-ft), and the electric motor makes 80kW (107hp) and 330Nm (243 lb-ft).
The 13kWh lithium-ion battery has a WLTP EV range of 63km (39mi) when fully charged.
The 0 to 100km/h (62mph) time is 6.8 seconds, and top speed is 232km/h (144mph).
