BMW’s abandoning EVs with their own platforms, like the i3 and i8, so the new i4 is based on the next 4-Series Gran Coupe.
And like all 4-Series models it will come with a tall, very ugly double kidney grille … even though it doesn’t need it for cooling the electric powertrain.
The rest of the car is fine, almost sexy, but that grille.
In its most powerful and expensive form, the i4 fastback will have a total of 390kW (523hp). 0-100km/h will take about 4.0s, and the top speed will be over 200km/h (124mph).
BMW estimates the i4 will have a WLTP range of 600km (373mi) from its 80kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and the interior has a curved screen.
Production (coronavirus willing) is planned to begin in 2021 in Munich alongside gas, diesel and plug-in hybrid models.
