We’re surprised it took until 2020 for Renault to launch the electric Twingo ZE, because its brother from another mother already has an EV version.
Actually the Smart ForFour is now only available as an EV. The Twingo is still available with a 990cc 3-cylinder engine with either 54kW (75hp) or 48kW (65hp).
Both the ForFour EQ and the Twingo ZE have a 60kW (80hp) and 160Nm (118 lb-ft) electric for the rear axle. The RWD city hatch has a WLTP range of 180km (112mi) from its 21.3kWh lithium-ion battery.
It has a B mode for aggressive engine braking whenever you lift off the “gas” pedal to improve mileage and reduce brake use. There’s also more traditional continuous mode where lifting off means the car will coast.
0-50km/h (0-31mph) takes 4s, and the top speed is 135km/h (84mph). It is available with 15″ or 16″ wheels.
The Twingo ZE supports 2.3kW to 22kW charging, with the fastest charging option needing 30 minutes for 80km (50mi) of range.
