There will be a new Yaris hatch for 2020 with funky styling, a more luxurious interior and better handling, but it’s only Japan, Europe and Australia.
The US and Canada will stick with its rebadged and renosed made in Mexico Mazda 2.
The new Euro/JDM Yaris is all new, is based on the new GA-B platform, and is 50mm (2″) wider and 40mm (1.6″) lower than the current car. It has front MacPherson strut suspension, and a rear torsion beam.
Available powertrains include 1L and 1.5L I3 gas engines, and a hybrid with a 1.5L Atkinson cycle I3 engine and a lithium-ion battery.
In Japan the Yaris comes with a CVT with a launch gear, and is available in either FWD or AWD in both hybrid and non hybrid models.
The Yaris is available with 10″ color head up display, large touchscreen inftoainment system with Apple CarPlay, and digital speedometer.
