The new Legacy are available with a 194kW/260hp 2.4L turbo, which leads us to wonder why the Forester, Crosstrek and Impreza isn’t offered with that engine.
Regarding the Crosstrek and Forster, Tom Doll, head of Subaru North America, told Motor Trend, “We’re selling as many as we can get. We haven’t really hit the top with the Crosstrek yet. Same thing for the new Forester.”
This means the 2.4L turbo H4, which makes 194kW (260hp) and 277 lb-ft (376Nm) in the Ascent and Legacy, isn’t needed in those models for now.
Doll did offer an olive branch for the future, though.
“In the future, if we need to hit additional volume targets or if the sales wane a little bit, as a way to try to get additional interest in the car, [we could] offer a higher-performance engine. That’s quite possible.”
