The 2020 Volkswagen Passat for the US won’t be the all new model shown in China and based on the MQB architecture, but a reskin of today’s NMS car.
You can thank the popularity of SUVs for Volkswagen going down the cheap and nasty route, but the car does have an all new exterior and interior. Reports say the car has longer roofline and more fastback style shape than today’s car.
The only engine in the new car will be a 2L turbo I4 gas engine with 174hp (130kW) and 207 lb-ft (281Nm), up 23 lb-ft (31Nm) from today’s car. A 6-speed automatic is standard.
The car rides on 17″ and 18″ wheels, or 19″ wheels on the R-Line model.
Equipment has been increased, with an 8″ touchscreen, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring and LED headlamps standard. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay mean sat nav will not be offered at all.
