Cadillac has stopped work on its upcoming 4 and 6 cylinder diesel engines because the market is moving towards hybrids and electric vehicles.
Steve Carlisle, head of Cadillac, has confirmed to Automotive News Cadillac is putting its diesel engine program on hold.
“We have been working on diesel, but the markets may be changing more quickly than we anticipated. Going forward, we will focus on electrification,” Carlisle said.
Cadillac was developing 4 and 6 cylinder diesel engines as part of its plan to be mainstream in Europe. These engines were due to go on sale before 2020, and would have also offered these engines in the US.
