The new S220 Toyota Crown is based on the TNGA platform with a lower center of gravity, has an all body, RWD or AWD, and was tested at the Nurburgring.
The 15th generation Toyota Crown has with 24/7 connected car services (T-Connect, Helpnet, e-Care, MyToyota smartphone app), vehicle to infrastructure communication, bolder styling, Toyota Safety Sense (radar cruise control, pre-collision safety, auto and adaptive highbeam, road sign recognition), and a 8″ navigation/infotainment screen and 7″ HVAC screen.
RS trim grades have sequential turn signals, mesh grille, 18″ wheels, rear lip spoiler, four exhaust tips, black window frames, and sporty side skirts.
There are three powertrains available:
A 2L I4 direct injection turbo (8AR-FTS) with 180kW between 5,200 and 5800rpm, 350Nm between 1,650 and 4,440rpm. The turbo is only available with RWD and an 8-speed auto. Prices start at ¥4,606,200 (US$41,620).
A 2.5L I4 hybrid (A25A-FXS) with a total of 166kW and a nickel-metal hydride battery. The 2.5L engine makes 135kW at 6,000rpm, and 22Nm between 3,800 and 5,400rpm, and the electric motor with 105kW and 300Nm. The Dynamic Force Hybrid has a CVT, is available in RWD or AWD, and prices start from ¥4,978,800 (US$44,990).
And a 3.5L V6 Multi-Stage Hybrid (8GR-FXS) with a total of 264kW, a lithium-ion battery, and 10 speeds through a CVT and 4-speed auto. The 3.5L V6 makes 220kW at 6,600rpm and 356Nm at 5,100rpm. The electric motor makes 132kW and 300Nm. The Multi-Stage Hybrid is RWD and starts from ¥6,237,000 (US$56,360).
The new Crown is available now in Japan from Toyota dealers, and the company expects to sell 4,500 per month.
